Business Portraits in a Small Room

Recently I was given the job to photograph the board of directors and key management of Sumisaujana Group Berhad.

First challenge – the room was really small.

My setup was simple:

  • One main light on the left

  • Big window on the right as reflector

That’s it. Even in tight spaces, you can still get professional business portrait photography results if you plan the light well.

Environmental Portraits in the Office

Environmental Portrait - Norazlam bin Norbi

Once the portraits were done, we moved to the office area for environmental portraits. These are a bit different from the usual corporate headshots. Instead of just plain backdrops, you get a sense of the actual workplace.

For this, my assistant helped hold a single light so we could move quickly. Simple setup, but it gave us clean and natural-looking images that felt alive.

Group Photo of the Board

Next up – the group corporate photo of the board of directors. Same thing, one light and an assistant.

Group photos like these aren’t just “nice to have.” They’re useful for websites, annual reports, and any place the company needs to show leadership and credibility.

Planning Ahead Makes the Job Easier

One thing I’ve learned – corporate photography often means adapting quickly. That’s why I always do a site visit first. It lets me storyboard the shoot, spot challenges, and prepare clients on what to expect.

Because on the day itself, things move fast. Quick thinking makes all the difference.

Why Company Culture Photos Matter

Apart from headshots and group photos, I always encourage clients to think about company culture photography.

It’s the type of image that shows teamwork, people at work, and the atmosphere of the office. These photos help tell the story of who the company really is – not just the suits and ties.

I’ve written more about this here: Corporate Photography.

Wrapping Up

This project with Sumisaujana Group Berhad reminded me again – corporate photography isn’t just about portraits. It’s about showing leadership, professionalism, and company culture in one package.
