Some assignments don't need a complicated setup.
During a recent business session held at Level 98, Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, I had the opportunity to photograph former Formula 1 driver and broadcaster Martin Brundle during his appearance with the Ask the F1 Legend at McLaren Mastercard F1 Team Business Session, ahead of the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.
The focus for this part of the event was simple - document Martin as he shared stories from his Formula 1 career, his experiences in motorsport and insights from decades spent around the paddock.

Keeping the Photography Simple
The sharing session took place in a relatively small room.
There was no need for a large lighting setup or elaborate portrait session. I worked mainly with an on-camera flash, photographing the session in an editorial style.

The goal was to capture Martin naturally - his expressions, gestures, interaction with the audience and those small moments that happen between the main talking points.
For corporate event photography, I find that the equipment often needs to take second place to timing.

Anticipate.
Photograph the moment without becoming the moment.

From Formula 1 Driver to Broadcaster
Martin Brundle has spent decades in Formula 1, including racing for McLaren in 1994, before becoming one of the sport's best-known television commentators.
Photographing him sharing those experiences in such an intimate setting made this assignment particularly interesting. Rather than photographing the speed and spectacle normally associated with Formula 1, this was about documenting the person, the stories and the interaction in the room.

Corporate Event Photography in Kuala Lumpur
Sessions like this are a good example of why corporate event photography does not always require complicated production.
Sometimes a small room, a camera, one flash and the ability to read the moment are enough.
